Welcome to London Business School in 2009
Dear Incoming Students:

On behalf of India Club, we would like to extend a very warm welcome to each one of you. We are psyched that you will be starting with us very soon and cannot wait to meet every one of you individually.

We have loads in store for you this year. From a mentorship program to Diwali parties to recruiting advice - much awaits your arrival in London. Without taking up too much of your time, I simply wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you and introduce you to your executive board for this year:

- Co-Presidents: Monika Chhabria & Anni Tankhiwale
- Yatra VP: Vipul Swarup
- Social and Marketing VP: Priyanka Iyer
- Treasurer: Tapan Bhatt

We, along with the rest of our peers, will be officially welcoming you during India Club’s Kick-off event, so please check the website for details such as date and location. Also, if you have not yet joined the India Club list serve via portal, do so now! You don’t want to miss out any of the events we’ve got planned for you this year.

Also, please feel free to reach out to any of us with any questions, comments, suggestion you might have. Enjoy the rest of your summers - definitely get some good R&R during this time (trust us, you will need it) and have a safe journey to London. We have included a short checklist (since most of you already have an exhaustive one) of the things we think you might want to bring and not bring with you. Again, feel free to drop us a line if you have any questions. Looking forward to meeting you all.

A checklist for your move to London in 2009
Kitchen:

- Pressure cooker - if you cook, this is useful
- Ready made spices - again, useful only if you cook

Clothes:

- Some Indian clothes - we have a big Diwali function and everyone gets dressed in their country’s traditional attire for Tattoo
- Warm clothes - lots of them, including full sleeve shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. - it is cold here. Always.
- At least one good suit and three good shirts and ties for men with matching shoes - recruiting events begin early on. You don’t want to be the only one without a decent suit

Other Important Things:

- If your company has an office in London, be sure to have the contact information of the key personnel here. These will be a good point of contact.
- Soft and hard copies of passport size pictures - good for everything from a Student Oyster card to getting a Schengen Visa if you need one.
- One sturdy notebook / diary - I used a Moleskin diary last year to jot down all key dates, events, notes during speaker and recruiter series. It had a pocket in the back where I kept all business cards and a stack of my personal London Business School business cards. Very handy all year long. And also served as a great reference when I need to write to people or look up notes.

What you don’t need to bring:

- Stationary - it is cheap here and not worth making your bags heavier with things like books, paper, pens etc.
- Lots of books - you will not have much time for leisure reading with all the reading you are given for school. They are also unnecessarily heavy
- Lots of very fancy clothes - most events take place at school and no one dresses up in ball gowns or straight-off-the-runway attire
